Week beginning 28th September
This week we are completing baseline assessments with the children, but alongside this we are focusing on our topic 'All About Me'. The children will be talking about and describing themselves. Most of the activities will be art and craft based, designed to be done fairly independently. See the ideas sheet below that we will be using in school.
We are continuing with Phase 1 in phonics.
Your child may tell you about Silly Soup. This is sung to the tune of 'Pop goes the weasel':
We're making lots of silly soup
We're making soup that's silly
We're going to cook it in the fridge
And make it nice and chilly!
An item is placed in the soup, for example :dog. All other items must rhyme with dog, e.g. hog, log, bog. Even nonsense words can be placed in the soup so long as they rhyme, e.g. rog, sog, etc
Some stories to enjoy
Week beginning 21st September 2020
This week we will be continuing to focus on the routine of the school day. Each classroom has displayed a visual timetable with pictures to explain what is happening now and next. After each activity or outdoor play session a hand washing slot has been allocated. This week you could ask your child to help put your timetable in the correct order talking about what we do in the morning, what we do in the afternoon and what we are doing next. Remember to use key vocabulary such as now, then, next, after and finally.
The children are getting very good at washing their hands and understanding the importance of this. continue to add hand washing into their daily routine. Here are some fun songs that will help with this.
This week we will be beginning some short phonics sessions with the children. We will be recapping aspects for phase 1. You can find more information on phase 1 below.
Some fun activities you can do at home,
Listening walk- Discuss what makes a good listener. Go for walks around the house and garden. What can they hear? (Make big ears for them to hold) Praise them for following good listening rules. Talk about what they heard. What can they remember? Did they hear any loud/quiet sounds?
Try this game out to see if children can discriminate between sounds. You can also play this game with house hold objects, e.g. bang a pan with a spoon or shake a bag of pasta. Can the children tell you which is which?
We will also be exploring rhyme this week in phonics. Read some stories with rhyming words in, can your child spot the rhyming words.
Try this fun rhyming game
