Volunteer Helpers in School

At Light Oaks Infant School we have been part of the local community for over 50 years and we pride ourselves on our strong community links.

We have a range of volunteers in school, all of which have an up-to-date DBS safeguarding certificate.

Some of our volunteers are studying towards a qualification, such as the Salford City College students who regularly attend placement or trainee teachers from various University establishments.

Over the course of the past few years we have been fortunate enough to work alongside a number of volunteers as part of our ‘Better Reading Partnership’. These volunteers work with several individual children on a weekly basis with the aim of developing and improving their reading skills and also instilling a love of reading. Our Better Reading Partner co-ordinator is Mrs Dean and she provides comprehensive training before volunteers begin working with children.

Safeguarding is of paramount importance, therefore all our volunteers are inducted on our school policies and safeguarding procedures.

The feedback we have received from our volunteers has been very positive and they have found their experience in school enjoyable and rewarding.

Should you wish to be considered for a placement with us, we would request you commit to at least half a term and attend school regularly within that period of time.

We require for you to have an up-to-date DBS check. The form is issued from our school office.

The contact for volunteers in school is Mrs Smith, and you can email to request to be considered for placement via: lightoaks.infants@salford.gov.uk

We will do our best to accommodate placements, however, there may be occasions when we cannot due to numbers of volunteers already in school.
