Little Red Hen

In preparation for reading the story - 'Little Red Hen', you and your child could attempt to make some of your own bread at home! Bread mixes can be bought at most supermarkets. We will be exploring and playing with bread mixes in our play-dough area too!

PUMPKIN PICKING

Over the next two weeks we will be learning about Harvest and the vegetables we may see at this time of year. Mrs Burke has been pumpkin picking this weekend, down at a pumpkin patch in Leyland, close to Preston. You may wish to take your child pumpkin picking to help them to experience what it is really like on a farm at this time of year.

We will have fresh pumpkins in our classroom, along with a range of other fruits and vegetables.

Scarecrow Festival

PLEASE REMEMBER OUR SCARECROW TOPIC HOME LEARNING ACTIVITY

We are asking our children to make their very own scarecrow at home to celebrate the autumn season. We will be displaying all scarecrows on the school Sandhills in our very own scarecrow festival!

Please bring your scarecrow to school on Friday 13th October. Thank you!

Homework

Your children have started to bring home homework. This will be a mixture of phonics, maths and topic related homework. We have a homework basket in our classroom for all completed activities. Please put your child's homework pack in this basket once they have completed their homework.

PHONICS

As your child begins to learn a wide variety of letter sounds, the pronunciation of these sounds will be very important. Please watch this video for advice on how to say 'pure' letter sounds:

You may also find this video helpful in supporting your child in 'blending' letter sounds to read words:

If you have any questions, please speak to a member of staff. Thank you!

Key Texts

Here are the books that we will be enjoying over the next few weeks:

Happy Harvest!

As the weather grows cooler and the colours around us begin to change, we will be learning about Autumn and Harvest time. You could try going on an autumn walk to collect leaves or conkers, or explore the markets or supermarkets to see which winter vegetables are starting to appear.

SENSES

We have been learning all about our senses! We have been exploring our sensory table in our classroom. Please talk to your children about our sense of smell, touch, taste, sight and hearing at home. They can be quite tricky concepts to understand!

As part of our Topic 'All About Me', we have been focusing on our bodies. We have been reading 'Funny Bones' and carrying out lots of exciting learning based on this story.

Funny Bones is part of a series of books; why not share some more of these at home? Your local library will have a selection of books available to borrow.

Or, you could watch some short clips on YouTube based upon the original story books:

Welcome to Reception Class!

During the first few weeks of this term we will be welcoming our new Reception class children into our school. We will be spending lots of time building friendships and learning school routines and rules.

Please can parents remember to bring their child's 'Here I come' pack to school. It will help to provide teachers with lots of useful information as we get to know your children.

Uniform items, additional letters and general information can be obtained at our school office.

We look forward to meeting our children the families!
