Nursery Newsletter

The Nursery Newsletter will include regular updates of what your child has been learning, singing & reading about in Nursery, as I know that you may not always get this information from your child! :)

 

I hope you enjoy finding out what your child has been doing during their time with us.

WB: 03.12.18 / 10.12.18

This week in Nursery:

  • We have been wrapping presents, writing gift tags and building toys in our Santa’s Workshop Role Play.

 

  • We have been learning lots of Christmas songs & we have performed them in Nursery for our families.

 

  • We have been learning about ‘The Christmas Story’ and making finger puppets of the main characters, so we can retell the story with our friends.

 

  • We have been making Christmas Cards, Christmas Wreaths, Christmas Stockings and baubles, using a variety of different media.

 

  • We have been learning rhymes to help us remember what the numbers 1 to 10 look like.

 

  • We have enjoyed our Christmas party with our friends, playing Christmas corners, dancing and eating our food in the hall.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • PHONICS

We have been learning all about alliteration, where we could only put animals that began with the same letter on the bus (e.g. cat, caterpillar, cow, crocodile). We have been using out voices to make lots of different sounds and we have been learning how to speak in ‘robot-talk’, ready for next term (e.g. c-a-t / p-a-n).

SPACE

Aliens Love Underpants)

WB: 26.11.18

This week in Nursery:

 

· We have read the story ‘Aliens Love Underpants’

· We have talked about our favourite parts of the story with our friends.

· We have created our own aliens, using playdough & we have created an alien spaceship, using a paper plate.

· We have used lots of different words to describe aliens (spotty, stripy, big, small, funny, googly eyes …)

· In maths we have been learning about repeating patterns. We have made repeating patterns, using actions, colours, natural objects and shapes.

 

 

· PHONICS

We have been learning all about rhythm & rhyme. We have used our listening ears to hear the rhyming words & find the ‘odd one out’.

SPACE

(The Solar System)

WB: 19.11.18

This week in Nursery:

 

· We have been learning all about ‘The Solar System’

· We have been learning the names of the Planets

· We have created the different planets, using different media and techniques.

· We have been exploring Space, using our Space Station role play area.

· We have been learning lots of new songs about space.

· In maths we have been learning about size: big, small, long & short and we have been putting objects in order.

 

 

· PHONICS

We have been using our bodies to make sounds (body percussion). We have passed sounds around the circle & we have been singing Nursery Rhymes, using different voices (loud, squeaky, grumpy, slow, fast…)

SPACE

(Whatever Next!)

This week in Nursery:

 

  • We have started a new topic this week, all about Space.
  • We have read the story ‘Whatever Next!’, which is all about Baby Bear’s visit to the moon.
  • We have used props to retell the story of Whatever Next.
  • We have been learning about 2D shapes
  • We have used words including: sides, corners, round, straight when looking at the 2D shapes.

 

 

  • PHONICS

We have listening to instrumental sounds in our phonics sessions this week. We have played lots of games where we have had to listen to the hidden instrument and find the matching one J

BONFIRES & FIREWORKS

WB: 06.11.18

This week in Nursery:

 

  • We have been learning about Bonfire Night and why we celebrate it. We found out about a man called Guy Fawkes.

 

  • We have used lots of words to describe the sounds and colours of the fireworks we have seen this week. We have had a go at writing these words.

 

  • We have made our own pipe cleaner sparklers.

 

  • We have painted fireworks, using forks to create different effects.

 

  • We have been singing lots of firework songs, including 10 Little Fireworks & Remember, remember the 5th of November.

 

  • PHONICS

We have started our phonics sessions. We have been on a

listening walk both indoors & outdoors, using our listening

ears to listen for different sounds.

                                        NOCTURNAL ANIMALS

This week in Nursery:

 

  • We have been learning lots of facts about Nocturnal Animals.

 

  • We have read lots of different stories about Nocturnal Animals:

- ‘Peace At Last’

- ‘Owl Babies’ &

- ‘Wow said the Owl’.

 

  • We can tell you the name of lots of nocturnal animals.

 

  • We have made play dough hedgehogs.

 

  • We have retold the story of ‘Owl Babies’ using finger puppets.

This week in Nursery:

 

  • We have been reading the stories of ‘Pumpkin Soup’ & ‘The Scarecrow’s Wedding’.

 

  • We have used story props in the Home Corner, to retell the story of Pumpkin Soup.

 

  • We have created pumpkins out of 2D shapes. We have explored the inside of a pumpkin & we have tasted pumpkin soup.

 

  • We have learnt about 2D shapes and we have used some new vocabulary (sides, corners, round, straight)

 

  • We have been on 2D shape hunts, both indoors & outdoors.

This week in Nursery:

 

  • We have been reading the story of the Little Red Hen.

 

  • We have used the Little Red Hen finger puppets to retell the story. Using the repetitive phrases “Not I” / “I will”

 

  • We have used our senses to explore lots of different vegetables.

 

  • We have used the vegetables to print using paints.

 

  • We have used paints & carrots to draw simple pictures.

This week in Nursery:

 

  • We have been learning about the season of Autumn – weather, clothes, trees & animals.

 

  • We have been learning an ‘Autumn Colours’ Song, to the tune of Frere Jacques.

 

  • We have explored and investigated Autumn objects, using our senses.

 

  • We have created our own Autumn Trees, using Autumn colours, using pegs & pom-poms.

 

  • We have used the Autumn objects to create our own temporary design pictures, including a leaf man, an owl & a duck.

This week in Nursery:

 

  • We have been singing and doing the animal signs for Old MacDonald.

 

  • We have introduced our counting songs on the carpet, as the children enter the Nursery.

 

  • We have painted pictures of Farm Animals to go on our Class Display. I will add a photograph of this once it is up in our Nursery Classroom.

 

  • We have been creating a small world farm, using the animals and the bricks.

 

  • We have read lots of stories, including: ‘The Pig in the Pond ‘ , ‘Rosie’s Walk’ & ‘What the Ladybird Heard’, as all of these stories are set on a farm

Week beginning 10.09.18

 

During the first few weeks of this term we will be welcoming our new Nursery class children into our school. We will be spending lots of time building friendships, learning school routines and rules.

Uniform items, additional letters and general information can be obtained at our school office.

We look forward to meeting our children the families!

Owl Babies - Picture Book Animation
